School Age Program Overview

We are a public separate school that serves student with disabilities from kindergarten through deferral (possibly the end of their 21st year). Our students are not able to served in their home districts due to the intensity of need in areas that may include medical complexities, autism with behavioral supports required, or moderate to intensively low cognitive abilities. We serve students with needs articulated in their evaluations in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Our students qualify for the use of an extended standards curriculum, which is a state curriculum that is very modified to meet our specific and intense needs.

Staff

Our school staff is made up of members from various support services. We work with our own DD staff members who are teachers, therapists, and classroom aides. We also welcome districts to employ aides for their students through educational service centers, which currently includes Brown County ESC, and Clermont County ESC members.

We are also made up of private care nurses for students whose IEP team has deemed that medically necessary, and those nurses are provided through private care agencies. Transportation team members are employed through the districts that they serve.

Student Experience

Student Experience Academics/Curriculum Experience: All students who attend Wildey School qualify for alternative assessment, meaning their main focus for learning is of the Ohio Standards, Extended. We also implement regular visits for each student to the sensory room, Comet Works (vocational lab), Comet Mart (mock grocery store), Comet Living (mock apartment/independent living practice simulation). We focus on independent living skills, and life skills. Each of our students participates weekly in a physical education class that is modified to meet student needs, and has the opportunity to swim in our therapeutic pool twice weekly.

Upper School Experiences: Students who are in high school grades, are eligible with the agreement of their parents to participate in community work with support at their individualized level. We have partnerships where we visit regularly with students for work experiences related to transition work. For those who do not participate in the community outings, there is the opportunity to work through experiences within the building with Comet Prime (supply delivery), Snack Shack (school snack store for staff), and dog bone baking and packaging. All upper school students participate with the in house activities.
Monthly School Wide Activities: Each class or team participates in planning a school wide event, where students take part in an assembly, activity, or have a special presentation. These events can sometimes include typical peers who are invited from local schools.

PBIS Tier 1

We have a school wide positive behavior intervention system in place for frequent rewards for students who are following our school wide expectations. We have set school wide expectations for each of our locations within the building. And because we work with very modified lessons, the Wildey team has created our own lesson plans for each location in the school to identify how we act in each location, and why we need to teach these expectations. Our lessons may include a video model, a story, 3-6 activities to support the learning of the lesson, and a visual cue reminder. The mentioned items are created with a team of staff which include related service providers, teachers, aides, and an agency behavior support specialist.

PBIS Tier 2

We have a team of school members identified to support problem solving around specific needs that fall above the daily class response to behavior. We work on specific behavior plans that need to be supported with as a larger team to meet student needs.

PBIS Tier 3

When we have worked through supports at the tier 2 level, and a students behavior needs are not yet being met, we will tap into the Clermont DD Agency Behavior Support Team. A specialist from this team will continue on the path of observations that the tier 2 team had done, but with a more background that may lend itself to giving recommendations that can support both home and school to remedy or best support a student need.
